Shipping furniture by courier: cost and practical tips

2024-05-10
A furniture set, folding chair, table with chairs, or perhaps garden tools and equipment such as a lawnmower, leaf blower, shovel, or secateurs – preparing these items for shipping can be a challenge. Fortunately, there are plenty of courier shipping options that can handle them. We will advise you on what to take care of when packing furniture and equipment, and which shipping option to choose to ensure the safety of your parcel and other shipments travelling alongside it.

Shipping furniture by courier – the cost depends on the solution you choose

You have several options. Depending on the size, weight, and specifics of the particular item, you can send it as a standard parcel, as an oversized parcel, na palecie or use our offer dedicated to furniture. Shipping furniture by courier – costs of individual solutions offered by us on the Poland-Ireland-Poland route:
  • standard parcel up to 50 kg: PLN 107.97–237.54 (EUR 25–55)
  • oversized parcel, i.e. heavier than 50 kg or dimensionally larger than standard: PLN 4.32–6.48 per kg (EUR 1–1.50 per kg)
  • euro and industrial pallets up to 1000 kg: PLN 518.28–1,727.60 (EUR 120–400)
A standard parcel is the ideal solution for small items that fit in a standard-sized box. This could be a folding garden chair, a small sun lounger, or a mini grill. It is important that the dimensions and weight of the parcel do not exceed the specific carrier's limits – usually 50 kg. The second type, an oversized parcel, is an option for larger items and non-standard shapes. Let us say you want to send a wooden sun lounger with cushions or a hammock with a frame. In this case, we are talking about an oversized shipment. Its limit at SpeedPack is up to 500 kg. Pallet shipping in many cases streamlines furniture courier shipping. Costs would increase if you had to send the components of a garden furniture set in separate shipments. Sending some items would be virtually impossible in a standard parcel. Want to send furniture or garden equipment to or from Ireland? Send them with us. We will ensure the safety of your goods and timely delivery. Remember: every shipment should be properly secured and labelled. This guarantees it will arrive at the recipient in perfect condition. Choose the option suitable for your goods and remember – proper packaging is half the battle! We will show you how to do it right.

How to prepare garden furniture for courier shipping?

When shipping garden furniture by courier, you need to focus on four main aspects: cleaning, disassembly, packing, and labelling. Po pierwsze, czyszczenie. Furniture that has been standing outside needs to be cleaned of soil, grass, or leaf residue. Next comes disassembly. Remove all detachable components. For example, if you have a garden table, the best solution is to disassemble the legs and secure them separately before placing everything in a shared box or on a pallet. This takes some time but allows you to better protect the furniture from damage during transport. After disassembly, it is time for packing. Use appropriate materials. Folia bąbelkowa, folia stretch, solidne kartony, narożniki i wypełnienia - to Twoi sprzymierzeńcy. Używaj folii bąbelkowej do owinięcia i ochraniania każdego elementu osobno. Folie stretch mogą służyć do utrzymania elementów razem podczas transportu oraz zabezpieczenia paczki z zewnątrz. Do pakowania najlepiej wykorzystać oryginalne opakowania. Make sure the courier company knows what it is transporting, especially if the items are fragile and delicate, or if the orientation of the parcel matters.

How to secure garden equipment for shipping?

First, make sure the equipment is clean and dry. Removing all types of dirt and moisture will prevent packaging damage and potential damage caused by corrosion. Disassemble loose, moving parts. This is particularly important for larger equipment such as lawnmowers or garden tractors. Take the example of a lawnmower: remove the grass box, disassemble any parts that could move during transport. This is important because it reduces the risk of damage to both the equipment itself and other shipments. Next, secure the moving parts of garden equipment, such as the handle or wheels. If possible, fold them or disassemble and secure them separately. It is not enough to just put the equipment in a box and send it like that. Remember that shipments can be carried and shifted. Hence the need to protect the equipment from the inside. Use bubble wrap for this purpose, which cushions any impacts. Corner protectors and honeycomb cardboard dividers will provide additional protection in case of impact. Use them to protect the equipment from every side. Pay particular attention to sharp elements. Pieces of cardboard wrapped around them and secured with tape, plus bubble wrap, will allow you to properly protect them. Combustion-powered devices must have fluids such as fuel, oil, or grease removed. A leak could damage not only your parcel but also the other shipments transported with it. Secure the shipment from the outside. Adhesive tape or stretch film works perfectly here. Wrap the box several times. Your shipment must be tightly sealed.

Does shipping furniture and garden equipment seem complicated?

Perhaps at first glance, but once you start you will see it is simpler than you think. Although the courier is obliged to ensure the safety of shipments during transport, a lot also depends on your diligence. Solid packing and choosing the right type of shipment are invaluable. Good luck!
